Domain name of macOS computers can be discovered automatically now

Even if all the above criteria are satisfied, tasks deployed to macOS computers might not be affected. It will affect only when the above criteria are satisfied and the following scenario occurs:

The Patch Manager Plus build has been updated to 10.0.647, that has automatic domain discovery capability for macOS computers. The existing macOS tasks are modified after the build update.

Let us understand this problem and its resolution using an example:

Problem

• Assume there is a macOS computer called Computer A.
• The actual domain name of Computer A = PMP-domain.
• Computer A is grouped under macosgroup in Patch Manager Plus.

After the build update, the computer will be listed under PMP-domain rather than macosgroup in Patch Manager Plus. The existing mac tasks that were deployed to macosgroup, will be deployed to Computer A, even though it is listed under PMP-domain now. However, say a user modifies an existing mac task deployed to macosgroup, then the task will not be deployed to Computer A.

Solution

In this case, if at all there's a need to modify an existing mac task, select PMP-domain as the target in the Define Target section of that particular Task.

If all the above criteria is satisfied, then your macOS Remote Shutdown Schedule tasks might be affected. This can be easily understood using an example.

Problem

• Assume there is a macOS computer called Computer A.
• The actual domain name of Computer A = PMP-domain.
• Computer A is grouped under macosgroup in Patch Manager Plus.

After Patch Manager Plus has been updated to build 10.0.647, the computer will be listed under PMP-domain rather than macosgroup in Patch Manager Plus. The existing macOS Remote Shutdown Schedule tasks that were deployed to macosgroup, might not be deployed to Computer A, as it is listed under PMP-domain now.

Solution

In this case, select PMP-domain as the target in the Define Target section of the affected macOS Remote Shutdown Schedule tasks.
